Updates

What has changed in Nixie, and what is changing in Australian payments that a dance studio has to act on.

ReleaseVersion 0.34.0

The price cap is now $390 a month, and owners can run more of the studio in Nixie.

The most a studio pays has dropped from $1,400 a month to $390, from 44 students. This release adds forms, branding, email templates, request routing, staff roles, hiring and multi-studio sign-in. Nothing is required of you.

Members, Staff and clearer payment retries.

Direct links take you straight to the right studio page. Members and staff can request an eligible payment retry, see its confirmed date and follow the result. Missing pages now offer a clear way back.

Attendance Published 20 September 2026

Mark the whole roll at once, and keep a note against a dancer.

Attendance has one action for the class. Mark all attending, then change the two who are not there. A dancer can carry a note that only the teacher sees, and it opens under their name on the roll: picked up early on Thursdays, an ankle strapped until the end of term, an exam in two weeks. Opening a class now puts it in the address bar, so you can send somebody a link to that class on that day.

AI access Published 19 September 2026

An owner can give an AI client read-only access, with a daily budget.

You can issue a token that lets an AI client read the Control Room. It is read-only. It cannot create or rename a studio, send mail or change a setting. Each token has its own daily budget, $0.50 AUD by default, and stops once that is spent. The budget resets at midnight Sydney time.

Security Published 19 September 2026

Owner sign-in has moved onto Nixie itself.

The Control Room at control.nixiedance.com now has its own sign-in. Enter your email address and Nixie sends you a six-digit code. The code lasts ten minutes and works once. Sign-in used to redirect to a page on another site, and it no longer does.

Payments Published 17 September 2026

Card surcharges end on 1 October. Direct debit was never in scope.

From 1 October 2026 a studio cannot add a surcharge to a card payment. The Reserve Bank's ban covers debit, credit and prepaid cards. It does not cover direct debit, BPAY or bank transfer, which is worth knowing before you rebuild your fee schedule around it.

Getting started Published 15 September 2026

Get Started asks for your studio name and your email address, and nothing else.

There is no password to choose and no form to fill in twice. Enter your studio name and your email address, and Nixie sends you a link that opens your studio. If you come back later and cannot remember how you signed in, ask for another link from the same page.

Your studio Published 15 September 2026

The example studio opens only from a link that asks for it.

Trying Nixie before you sign up opens an example studio with made-up families in it. It now opens only when a link asks for it by name. Typing the address on its own asks who you are, the way your own studio does. Nothing your studio holds was ever in that example.
